Germination of a seed primarily depends on the availability of water,but a seed subjected to salt stress faces a shortage of water because of low water potential of the saline soil.As a result,both the rate of germination and total germination may be drastically reduced in salt-affected soils.Restricted water uptake may result in various structural,physiological,and biochemical changes within a germinating seed.
