GABA transporter 1 (GAT1) plays an important role in GABA reuptake from GABAergic synaptic cleft, which mainly distributes at GABAergic presynaptic terminals.When GAT1 is knocked out, the mice manifest schizophrenia-like phenotype, such as locomotor hyperactivity, impaired prepulse inhibition, abnormal social behaviors.Electron microscope showed the thickness of PSD in striatum was decreased.
