Cytoplasmic Kv channel-interacting proteins (KChIPs) associate with pore-forming Kv4 a-subunits to form channel complexes that encode the somato-dendritic A-type K+ current (IsA) in neurons and transient outward current (Ito) in cardiac myocytes. All KChIP isoforms contain a highly conserved C-terminal core domain that interacts with two neighboring Kv4 N-terminal domains to function as a molecular clamp to enhance membrane expression, whereas their N-terminus alters the channel gating.
