物质根据其磁性不同分为顺磁、逆磁和无磁三种,它们与外界磁场的相互作用分别为相吸、相斥和无影响。原煤中碳组分是逆磁的,主要杂质磁化铁是顺磁的,多数灰分是无磁的,所以可以用磁选法选煤。这种想法产生约有20年了,但由于对煤的磁性构成缺乏具体的技术参数以及采用常规电磁技术经济上不合理两方面原因,一直未得到工业应用。最近,美国在原煤磁性研究和强磁体设计方面取得进展,使磁选法成为一项有前途的选矿技术。
