Kaposis sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) persists in a highly ordered chromatin structure during latent infection with majority of the genome having repressive marks. However, upon reactivation the landscape of viral chromatin changes into an open chromatin through the involvement of lysine demethylases and methyltransferases.Beside methylation on lysine residues, arginine methylation of histone H4 and H3 has been shown to play an important role in controlling the compactness of the chromatin.
