Kaposis sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and other herpesviruses trigger and then subvert inflammasome activation of host cells, but the role of the inflammasome in gammaherpesvirus pathogenesis is not known. Here we report that virus replication was not impacted by the loss of Caspase 1/11 in bone marrow-derived macrophage cells (BMDMs) or primary fibroblasts.Interestingly, in BMDMs infected with infectious or UV-inactivated murine gammaherpesvirus 68, we found no evidence for the activation of the inflammasome over a 24 hr timecourse.
