The switch between latency and virus reactivation (lytic replication) is a critical step in KSHV pathogenesis and transmission.The molecular events that regulate viral reactivation are not fully understood.The reported mechanisms involve activation of cellular kinases and epigenetic mechanisms, and reactivation can be induced e.g.with kinase agonists (TPA) and chemical inhibitors affecting histone acetylation or DNA methylation.
