Experimental Animal Resistance to Infection [Determination and Formation of Immunity in Different Hosts] Three experimental animals, rhesus monkey, white rat and rat, have been used more extensively for the study of schistosome immunity than other animals. Rhesus macaques and mice are susceptible to Schistosoma mansoni or Schistosoma japonicum infection. They develop and mature about 5 weeks after infection and the adults can survive and lay their eggs for many months.
