The philosophy of history is the product of the modern western thought. It seeks to understand history as a whole, to understand the principle governing history, and what it may imply. In his book History of the World and History of Salvation, Carl Lovett tries to show that modern historical philosophy regards history as a linear process and toward a meaningful future. He believes that this idea comes from Christian eschatology. This study began with a retrospection of why the modern history of the world was a human suffering. He found that such a linear historical philosophy provided an utopian life, and in order to realize it, human suffering can be ignored. He pointedly pointed out: Without going beyond the framework of “philosophy and purpose” of historical philosophy, reflection will eventually fail. In the end, the question of historical philosophy is still the question of human existence.
