The outcome of pregnancies in women with Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) has improved significantly during recent years. The previously high frequencies of miscarriages, malformations, stillbirths and neonatal deaths have decreased due to better glycemic control.Certain progress has also been made in reducing pregnancy complications such as pre-eclarnpsia, premature births, and macrosomia at birth i.e.the frequency of large for gestational age (LGA) babies with a birth weight > 4 500 g.
