Rapid improvements in glucose metabolism following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (GBP) surgery have been reported on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with obesity patients.However, data concerning non-obese Asian patients have not been reported, and the mechanism of improving T2DM after surgery in obesity and non-obesity population remains speculative.From January 2006 to June 2007, 103 T2DM patients undergoing GBP were recruited and divided into overweight/obesity group and normal weight group by if BMI ≥3d25 or not.Oral glucose tolerance test, insulin release test, C peptide release test, HbA1C, BMI, △I30/△G30 and △I30 were evaluated before and after surgery during the 3 years follow-up.
