Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women and family history of breast cancer is a well known risk factor.The term hereditary breast cancer is usually reserved for cancers occurring in several members of different generations in a family.A number of genes with high to moderate penetrance have been identified as breast cancer susceptibility genes, including BRCA1 and BRCA2,TP53, PTEN, ATM, CDH1, STK1, NBS1, etc.Breast cancer arising in patients with germline mutations of BRCA 1 and BRCA2 genes exhibits different clinical and pathologic characteristics comparing to sporadic breast cancer.Furthermore, breast cancer in BRCA1 carriers has different pathologic features from that in BRCA2 carries.The features of hereditary breast cancer in BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers will be presented.
