A current plateau of modern method contraceptive prevalence rate is a source of concern for the national program in Jordan.A new insight is necessary for tackling the problem, while continuing reducing discontinuation of contraceptive use and unmet need for family planning.In the field of family planning, empowerment is deemed important at the individual level (self-empowerment) because it allows them to govern health, pregnancies and deliveries for themselves.Therefore, the studies were conducted both in 2008 and 2011 to examine the interrelationship between the usage of contraception and self-empowerment among the Jordanian women by targeting married women aged 15-49 living in the southern rural communities of Jordan where there is social and cultural uniformity among women within the communities (N=690).The perception of self-empowerment was measured by variables such as: Psychological wellbeing Decision making Self-health care Social support Belief in community norms.The result demonstrates that among the perceptions of the above-mentioned variables, women using contraception gave higher scores in decision making and social support and show less inclination to follow community norms with highly strong statistical significance (p<0.01).An association between contraceptive use and empowerment variables infers that women who are using contraceptives feel more self-empowered than those who arent.
