The existence of gender inequality between men and women is an affirmation of culture, manners and customs of Vietnamese people. The concept of "man has the right to consider woman as his possession" is a result from the remnants of feudal ideology, patriarchy and "male chauvinism" which is profoundly embedded in the Vietnamese psyche and brings about the attitude of a superior position of men over women who suffer from different forms of violence and abuse such as physical, mental, sexual, and economic violence;that pushes the women into a dependent position.DVAWAC is quite popular in Vietnam, and occurs in both rural and urban areas, in poor and well-off families;regardless, men in low or high education level, Kinh or ethnic minority, consider that they have the right to abuse their wife and women in general. The violence is occurring frequently and not only fundamental humans rights violation but also damage womens health, even in pregnancy period result in bleeding, hemorrhage and miscarriage, and long lasting affect on womens and childrens life.Perpetrators are husbands, fathers or relatives in the family. The fact is that society and public opinion in Vietnam still consider domestic violence a "normal" issue and a private family affair, or even an acceptable aspect in domestic relationships, especially in ethnic minorities.Furthermore, women are often considered to be the main wrongdoer or sole offender whenever domestic differences arise, unreasonably so, in particular, in ethnic minorities and mountainous areas, DVAWAC prevention has not paid much attention to these issues.DVAWAC consider as a public health issues that should be integrate into health care system to protect womens health and rights. The enhancement awareness of the community on gender equality, womens and childrens rights and DVAWAC prevention should be more intervention.Although, in recent years, Vietnamese government passed DVAW prevention and gender equality law, DVAW prevention and gender equality, and women empowerment are emerge issues for social economic development in Vietnam.
