Approximately 1.2 billion dollars of yearly losses are caused by Striga spp., root parasitic Orobanchaceae plants that infect important crops such as maize, sorghum and rice.As parasitic plants are one of the biggest threats for the global food security, understanding the molecular basis of plant parasitism is crucial to develop control methods for improvements of agricultural production.
