Refining Al alloy by TiB2 has been extensively investigated for several decades both in industry and academic.However, the grain refinement potency by TiB2 alone is not high as expected.The presence of other solutes (i.e.Ti) is, therefore, of great necessity to enhance the grain refine potency of TiB2 by tailoring the heterogeneous nucleation interface of TiB2.Here, we report an atomic-scale experimental investigation on the heterogeneous nucleation interface of TiB2 in Al alloys, with a special focus on the partitioning of solute elements (Ti,Si and Cr) to TiB2.
