Recent developments in synchrotron X-ray micro-tomography allow now to image materials in 3D with a spatial resolution of about one micrometer and a frame rate of about one second.Time and spatial resolution are now compatible for the observation and the characterisation of phases growth during solidification of metallic alloys with cooling rates of several Kelvins per second.Such observations are helpful to understand the developments of the micro-structures in complex materials such as aluminium alloys reinforced with different types of particles.
