The typical amount of Mg added to hypoeutectic Al-Si alloys is ranged from 0.3 to 0.6 wt%.Mg addition over 0.6 wt% induces residual Mg2Si precipitates during the solid solution treatment.Most of the work on hypoeutectic Al-Si alloys containing Mg are limited to 0.1-0.6 wt%, and rarely exceeded 1 wt% in the Mg contents.In the present study, Mg+Al2Ca master alloy as an alloying element of Mg was employed for the eutectic Si modification and control of Mg loss occurred during melting process.The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of the microstructure and tensile property in AlSi7Mg alloys with Mg content range from 0.4 to 1.2wt% during T6 heat treatment.
