The genus Hymenoscyphus contains about 155 species and is widely distributed throughout the world.The species diversity in China and phylogeny of the genus have not been fully investigated.In the present work, Hymenoscyphus species occurring in China are studied using a polyphasic taxonomic approach to establish a clear species concept, and find reliable taxonomic criteria.Examinations of macroscopic and microscopic features and sequence analyses of ITS rDNA for 34 species and combined D1-D2 domain of the large subunit, ITS rDNA, and partial beta-tubulin gene for 21 taxa were carried out.
