Aged taste ceils in taste buds are constantly replaced by young cells differentiated from basal cells during animals lifespan.Yet, the related mechanisms that regulate survival and death of taste cells remain largely unknown. In this study, we probe the roles of cytokines tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-10 (IL-10), in taste cell turnover.TNF, a proinflammatory cytokine, often induces apoptosis by binding to its receptors and activating cell death pathways.
