In heavy metalcontaminated soil system,adsorption properties of lead and cadimium by Fe3O4,Citric acid-coated Fe3O4,MnO2-coated Fe3O4,iron filing,magnetite,and manganese orewereinvestigated.Main operation parametersof adsorptionwere studied and optimized.The results showed that adsorption of acid extractable,reducible,and oxidizablelead by Fe3O4 was 50%,which was up to 9 times more than that by iron filing.The removal ratio ofacid extractable,reducible,and oxidizablecadimiumby Fe3O4 was 60%,which was higherthan that byany other metal oxides.Adsorption oflead and cadimiumincreased with the content of metal oxides,and decreased with the liquid-solid ratio.The removal efficiency of lead and cadimium in different solutions was in the sequence: acetic acid>oxalic acid> water.The media is inexpensive to prepare and could serve as the basis of a useful metal removal and possibly metal recovery process in a variety of settings.
