Indirect markers of autonomic integrity are a much sought after entity but have proven to be elusive for want of a consistent and reliable tool.Heart rate variability was a very popular topic in the early 2000s.It probably lost its pride of place from failure to be able to develop a reliable assessment platform.Historically, recordings were long and often useless because a pattern could not be linked, either quantitatively or qualitatively, to specific aspects of autonomic function.What clinicians desire is a quick, easy to apply method to tell them in no uncertain terms whether a given individual has or has not dysfunction of the autonomic system.
