Bariatric surgeries are one of the most effective anti-obesity interventions producing durable weight loss, and otten lead to dramatic improvements in diabetes beyond the benefits accrued from weight loss alone.The benefits of these surgeries are hypothesized to be due to multiple mechanisms including gastric restriction, exclusion of foregut, and/or enhanced stimulation of the hindgut; the relative importance of these mechanisms is unknown.
