孟加拉国较穷,新闻业却颇发达。其面积相当于我国一个中等省,但办有日报60多份,仅首都达卡就有十几份。各报间的竞争激烈可以想见。我到达卡不久,一份英文日报新国家报便引起了我的注意。它的版面设计,标题制作、印刷等都很精美,出版时间既早又准时。最引起我注意的是这家日报隔三过五所登载的一些独家新闻,这些新闻从外交到内政,从经济到社会样样涉及,有不少都是孟全国乃至国际关注的重大事件。这些文章行文流畅明快,结构新颖紧凑,一般在英文四五百字,最多不过千字,可读性相当强。我发现这类文章十之有八署名为:本报特派记者默迪尔·拉赫曼。于是我产生了结识这位同行高手的愿望。我第一次去新国家报拜望默迪尔时,他不在,主编莫依纽先生接待了我。谈到他们的报纸,莫依纽不
Bangladesh is poorer, and journalism is more developed. Its area is equivalent to a medium-sized province in our country, but there are more than 60 daily newspapers, and there are more than a dozen of Dhaka alone.
