1961年全国生化工作者云集上海原金门饭店(现华侨饭店)举行学术交流会。会上许多生化界的老前辈认为应该有自己的学会并鼓励和支持上海的生化工作者先成立学会。在王应睐教授的领衔下终于在当年12月正式从中国生理科学会分出而成立上海市生物化学学会。会员人数虽不逾百名,可是对上海地区生物化学的发展起了积极的作用。十年动乱期间学会被迫停止一切活动。当科学的春天又来临时,1978年学会又恢复了活动,成立第二届理事会,仍由德高望重的王应睐教授出任理事长,当时登记的会员数有132名。之后,学会正常地开展着各种学术活动,理事会每三年换届。至今已是第六届理事会,会员人数猛增,现有
1961 National biochemical workers gathered in Shanghai Golden Gate Hotel (now Overseas Chinese Hotel) held an academic exchange. Many elders of the biochemical community at the meeting thought that they should have their own society to learn and encourage and support biochemical workers in Shanghai to set up a society first.
