常任侠先生从早年读私塾时就开始养成写日记的习惯,目前所存见的有系统的日记起于1932年。止于1996年9月,即去世前的一个多月,凡60余个春秋。这些日记历经战争烽火和政治运动,略有损毁丢失,但绝大部分都完整地保存下来,成为一份不可多得的文化遗产。1999年由郭淑芬、沈宁整理,海天出版社出版的《战云纪事》一书,即是常先生1937年至1945年抗战期间的日记选刊。时值常先生百年诞辰之际,特将1949年日记整理发表,这部分日记,从一个侧面折射出建国初期中国知识分子的精神状态和活动情况,对从事这一时期文化研究的研究者来说,当有所参考。常夫人郭淑芬女士提供了日记原件,并认真审阅了整理稿,在此谨致谢意。
