Learned March 17, IBM announced that it has released an industrial standard interface based on “BLUEFIN” (Tuna Project) for its “shark” enterprise storage server to help users efficiently manage storage systems in multivendor storage networks. IBM also announced that it will provide storage-based technical support for host users based on the open Linux platform. IBM introduced the “shark” enterprise storage server application program interface --ESS API, designed with “BLUEFIN” fully compatible. The initial release of the ESS API will support AIX, LINUX and WINDOWS 2000 operating systems and support for general LUN (storage logical unit count) management capabilities.
