On February 18, Wang Weiguo, vice mayor of Datong City, Shanxi Province, was murdered. He was not the first official that was murdered in Datong.
The police surprisingly found that the criminal suspect was Wang Weiguo’s brother-in-law Zhou Yun. Zhou Yun was born in May 1953 and after 2007 he went out for working. He repeatedly asked Wang Weiguo for moving to the public service units before retirement. He also wanted Wang Weiguo to help his son find a better job. But Wang Weiguo rejected all his requests. Feeling unpleased, Zhou Yun had the idea of take reprisals against Wang Weiguo. After the initial interrogation, Zhou Yun already confessed his crime.
Wang Weiguo was born in 1960. He initially worked as a teacher after he graduated from the college. In January 1997, Wang Weiguo was ap- pointed the deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Datong Municipal CPC Commission. In August 2001, Wang Weiguo was appointed deputy Party secretary and head of the Mining District of Datong. During his five-year tenure in this place, Wang Weiguo made great contributions to this place with abundant coal resources, which laid a solid foundation for his appointment as the Party secretary of Zuoyun County, a county with the fame of producing coals. On May 18, 2006, a water gushing-out accident happened to a coal mine in Zuoyun County, causing the death of 56 people. Wang Weiguo was appointed Party secretary of Zuoyun County. The investigation revealed the truth of the accident which was covered by the local government. Fortunately, Wang Weiguo was not influenced by this accident though most of his colleagues were sacked from their posts.
