近几年各地报刊陆续发表了一些社会知名人士或其家属向国家捐献他们珍藏的私人档案的消息,读后,十分高兴。作为一个档案资料工作者,我认为把散存在民间的珍贵的私人档案捐献给国家保存,不论对国家对个人,都是一件大好事。私人档案包括:各种来往文书、信件、证件、日记、手稿、家谱等等。这些私人档案不管目前保存在私人手中或捐献给国家,它们都是属于我国珍贵的历史档案宝库中的一部份。档案与文物不同,随着时间的推移,私人保存的档案由于缺乏必要的档案技术保护条件,其纸张不可避免要老化、脆裂,字迹要退化,如果再不采用专门的档案技术保护措施进行处理,那么仍然散存在民间的珍贵的私人档案,就不可避免地要自然消失。我曾看到过一些社会著名人士捐献的私人档案,其中许多已老化、脆裂,虫蛀,字迹退化……,再不进行修补,
