美国是一个商品化、社会化高度发达的资本主义国家,在档案文件的管理方面,也显示了这一特点。大体说来,美国除政府设置的各级档案馆和文件中心外,如美国国家级档案馆,州级档案馆,县级档案馆或文件中心等,还有各种私人档案馆或文件中心。这类档案馆或文件中心,一种是大型企业,如3M公司、PIZZA公司、福特汽车公司之类,各自设立只保管本公司系统形成的档案文件材料;一种是私人开设的专为中小企业或个人服务的商业性的档案馆(公司)或企业文件服务中心。目前,美国有这样的私人开设的档案馆(公司)100多家,伦纳德档案公司就是其中的一家。下面,我简略地介绍一下这个公司的基本情况,以供我国档案工作者了解美国私人档案公司之一斑。
