访问加拿大期间,曾去加拿大公共档案馆查阅文献资料,那里的丰富库藏、先进设备、科学管理、优良服务和优雅环境,给我深刻的印象。加拿大公共档案馆位于加京渥太华的议会大厦建筑群的西侧,面临宽阔的惠灵顿街,背靠渥太华河,与加拿大国家图书馆合用一幢大厦,建筑典雅,地点幽静。这个档案馆的最大特点,是全年365天,每天24小时连续不断地开放,连法定假日也不例外。所谓不间断地开放,是指已经借到档案后,可以无分平日、假日,也无分白天、黑夜,随时前去查阅。但第一次检索目录和填单子借档案资料,仍要在通常的上班时间即8:30至16:45之间,前去向流通台的工作人员办理。来不及看完的资料,可以放回盛放资料的长形厚纸板箱内,连箱锁在特制的分格文件橱内,把钥匙交给门卫,说明尚未用好,以后再去。上班时间之外,那里没有工作人员,只有值班人员留守在阅览室门口,为读者登记。已经借到资料但尚未用完的读者,可以随时前去,向大门口的门卫出示读者卡,由其根据读者前次离去时的登记,交给有关的钥匙,由读者取出资料继续阅读。
During my visit to Canada, I visited the Canadian Public Archives and reviewed the literature and materials. I was deeply impressed by the rich collection, advanced equipment, scientific management, excellent service and elegant environment. Facing the broad Wellington Street on the west side of the Ottawa Parliament Building complex in Ottawa, Canadian Public Archives stands on the Ottawa River, in conjunction with the National Library of Canada building an elegant building in a secluded location. The most prominent feature of this archives is that it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Even statutory holidays are no exception. The so-called uninterrupted opening means that after the files have been borrowed, there can be no day, day or day, no night, at any time.
