In 2000, the total volume of foreign trade imports and exports reached 474.308 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 31.5% over the same period of the previous year (hereinafter referred to as “growth”), of which exports were 249.122 billion U.S. dollars, up 27.8 percent; imports were 225.097 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.8%. The total import and export volume of mechanical and electrical products was US$208.184 billion, an increase of 34.7%, accounting for 43.9% of the country’s total foreign trade import and export, of which mechanical and electronic products imported 102.87 billion US dollars, up 32.6%; mechanical and electrical products exports 10.5313 billion US dollars, up 36.9%, in the country’s foreign trade. The share of total exports is 42.3%. In 2000, the export of mechanical and electrical products exceeded 25.3 billion U.S. dollars, and the “Ninth Five-year Plan” determined by the State Council was completed.
