原有产业也许能在技术上改善使得利润增加1％,但是唯有新的产业能带来革命性的变革。举例来说,美国通用汽车公司总共生产100亿美元的汽车,就会有100亿美元收入。如果技术进步,那它只要投入30亿,就会有100亿的收入。如果没有技术,就没有利润。但是微软不用任何自然资源,它只要投入20亿,就有100亿美元收入。新科技所产生的竞争规则不同于旧有产业。
The original industries may be able to improve their technology so that the profits increased by 1%, but only the new industries can bring revolutionary change. For example, when General Motors Corp. makes a total of 10 billion U.S. dollars, it will have 10 billion U.S. dollars in revenue. If the technology improves, then as long as it invests 3 billion, it will have 10 billion in revenue. Without technology, there is no profit. But Microsoft does not have any natural resources, it only invested 2 billion, there will be 10 billion US dollars in revenue. The competition rules created by new technologies are different from the old industries.
