This article aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) against cardiac arrhythmia induced by hypoxia/reoxygenation/reperfusion in isolated hearts. The results showed that arrhythmia occurred in the oxygen abnormal group at the early stage of reperfusion and lasted to 2.8±2.2 minutes; the incidence of arrhythmia in the ligustrazine group was only 28%. The average duration is 3.5±1.5min. There was a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.01). Its mechanism of action may be related to TMP scavenging free radicals, anti-lipid peroxidation while maintaining normal cell electrical activity and blocking Ca 2+ influx. Studies suggest that TMP is superior to verapamil in Ca2+ channel blockers.
