哈佛人文主义学者,汉学家本雅明·史华兹(1916—1999)对我国翻译家严复的研究不仅回答了中国人如何认识自己的文化背景和西方思想的渊源,同时反映了美国人对中国文化的阅读姿态。其研究方法和成果不但对中国当代人文主义研究有重大的参考价值,同时对中美之间在思想领域的对话与交流也有积极作用。本文通过对史华兹的一系列严译西方名著的研究进行梳理,揭示了史华兹解读严复翻译的人文主义视角。
Harvard anthropologist and scholar Benjamin Schwartz (1916-1999)’s study of our Chinese translator Yan Fu not only answers the question of how Chinese understand their own cultural background and the origin of Western thought, but also reflects the Chinese’s understanding of Chinese culture Reading gesture. Its research methods and achievements not only have great reference value for the study of contemporary humanism in China, but also have a positive effect on the dialogue and exchange between China and the United States in the field of thinking. By combing Schwartz’s series of studies on the translation of Western famous writings, this article reveals Schwartz’s interpretations of Yan Fu’s humanistic perspective.
