近年来,尤其是进入八十年代以来,有关“21世纪是太平洋时代”的议论越来越多。实际上,正如“21世纪太平洋地区经济结构研究会”的报告书(即:《太平洋时代的展望》)所作的计量预测那样,到21世纪时这个地区的经济发展前景是光明的。1984年,太平洋地区的贸易额终于超过了大西洋地区的贸易额,今后这两个地区的贸易差距估计还会进一步扩大下去。因此,也出现了世界的重心“从大西洋时代转移到太平洋时代乃是世界历史的必然趋势”的流行说法。
In recent years, especially since the 1980s, there have been more and more discussions on “the 21st century is the Pacific Age.” In fact, the economic prospects for the region as of the twenty-first century are bright, as is forecasted in the report of the 21st Century Pacific Economic Structure Research Institute (“Outlook for the Pacific Age”). In 1984, the trade volume in the Pacific finally exceeded the trade volume in the Atlantic Ocean and the trade gap between the two regions is estimated to further expand in the future. Therefore, there has also been a popular argument that the center of gravity of the world, “the shift from the Atlantic to the Pacific, is an inevitable trend in the history of the world.”
