1995年盛夏的一天,郧西县湖北口回族乡的乡长等一行到省里办事,找到了省人大民委,省人大民委积极给予了协助;事后,委员会了解到他们因经济困难难以结住宿费,便主动帮助他们结下了500多元的住宿费。省人大民委成立以来,发生在委员会与少数民族和民族地区之间的类似的事情尚有许多件。不知从何时起,我省民族自治地方和民族乡的干部群众开始由衷地感叹:到了省人大民委,就像回到了家里。为表彰省人大民委在我省民族法制建设方面取得的成绩,在维护民族团结、促进民族进步等方面付出的努力,1998年10月,中华人民共和国国家民族事务委员会授予湖北省人民代表大会民族宗教侨务外事委员会“民族团结模范单位”的称号。下面是省人大民委开展民族工作的几则小故事。
