Objective To investigate the relationship between the first polar body morphology of oocytes and female age and ICSI outcome. Methods The clinical data of 146 cycles of ICSI treatment in our hospital from March 2008 to November 2009 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the first polar body morphology of M Ⅱ oocytes, they were divided into complete polar body group Polar body) and anomalous polar body group (3,4 polar body), comparison of different forms of polar body and age and ICSI outcome correlation. Results The proportion of oocytes of Level 1 and Level 2 polar bodies in women over 35 years old was significantly lower than that of patients less than 35 years old (P <0.01). The fertilization rate, cleavage rate, early cleavage rate, excellent embryo rate (P <0.01). The implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate of the complete polar body embryo group were significantly higher than those of the mixed embryos (complete polar body and abnormal polar body embryo group) (P <0.01) . Conclusion There is a certain correlation between the morphology of the first polar body and the age of the oocyte. The morphology of the first polar body can be used as one of the indexes for selecting embryos for transplantation.
