On 12 February， the US Senate voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and sent it to the House of Representatives.
“Since its enactment in 1994， the Violence Against Women Act has played a crucial role in providing guidance to state and local-level governments， and in facilitating their adequate responses to violence against women，” UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women， Rashida Manjoo said
The Act was reauthorized by Congress in 2000 and 2005 respectively， and aims to enhance protections for Native American and Alaskan Native women； lesbian， gay， bisexual， and transgender victims； and immigrant victims and their children.
