AtMYB11 Regulates Caffeoyl Quinic Acid and Flavonol Synthesis in Tomato and Tobacco

  The trend of so-called functional food, not only as energy source but also as medicine,is increasing.Plant Polyphenolics are widespread dietary health-promoting sustenance, protecting against age-related and heart diseases and incidence of cancers.AtMYB11, Arabidopsis thaliana transcription factor, was originally identified as a flavonol-specific transcriptional activator.We have expressed AtMYB11 in tobacco, which resulted in higher accumulation of flavonols (keampferol rutinoside 2.1-to 6.2-fold,rutin 2.1-to 15.7-fold) and chlorogenic acid (CGA) (1.9-to 5.0-fold).and enhanced expression of most genes involved in Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway.Morever, the size of primary root, lateral root, leaf long diameter and leaf short diameter were all significantly larger in AtMYB11-expressing tobacco than in wild-type tobacco, it is no doubt that this appearance was beneficial to the polyphenols extraction in industrial production.
