Hybrid nanocrystals (NCs) possessing multifunctionalities have been emerging as useful probes for myriad appilcations ranging from cell targeting, delivery, separation, bio-imaging and photodynamic therapy. This talk would mainly focus on our recent efforts in the fabrication of multifunctional heterostructured NCs composed of the following: (i) semiconducting quantum dots (QDs) and magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs);(ii) fluorescent near-infrared (NIR) dyes and MNPs;(iii) up-conversion NCs and QDs, and (iv) doped NCs and their potentials for diagnostic and therapeutic (the so-called theranostics) applications.
