Mesoporous alumina (MA) having high surface area (716 m2/g) and large pore volume (0.90 cm3/g) with narrow pore size distribution was synthesized via a sol-gel process, and tested as a CO2 sorbent for the first time.MA by itself showed a significantly higher adsorption capacity (52 mg/g) than commercial γ-alumina or 3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane-grafted MCM-41.Static adsorption and breakthrough experiments also proved high separation efficiency for CO2 against N2.According to TGA,60% of the adsorbed CO2 could be desorbed by simple helium purge at 25 ℃,while 250 ℃ was needed to totally recover the captured Co2.49 wt % PEI (polyethylenimine)-impregnated MA achieved still high CO2 sorption capacity (120 mg/g).Both pure MA and the PEI-impregnated hybrid material produced a reversible and durable sorption performance.
