Anther culture of thirty two eggplant hybrids was carried out to produce haploid or double haploid regenerants in spring and autumn in 2006,respectively.Regenerated haploid and double haploid plants via direct somatic embryogenesis were obtained from 12 genotypes among the 32 donors.The frequencies of plantlets formation in spring had no significant difference between that in autumn.The need for incubation treatment and adequate nutrition media supplemented with 2.4-D and high sucrose are suggested as important factors to obtain somatic haploid embryos in eggplant anther culture.The frequency of plantlets formation is 81.82% in 2006,which is much higher than that from callus.
