Shallot (Allium cepa.L aggregatum group) bulbs are used daily almost in every Ethiopian house for the preparation of Wot"-spiced stew.Shallot is preferred to onion for its special culinary values and unique flavor.Shallot is commonly propagated from bulbs.Growing shallot from bulbs helps for early harvest (short growing cycle) fitting to areas where the growing season is short and enabling double harvest in a plot-shallots grown as a first and an early cash crop planted at the onset of the small rain (Belg),other crops (cereals or pulses) immediately planted following shallot harvest during the main rainy period.
