Optimization of continuous transesterification from palm olein oil in supercritical methanol has been investigated.The effects of process variables on the yields of overall fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) and four major components (C16:0,C18:0,C18:1 and C18:2 methyl ester) were studied using design of experiments (DOE).The studied process variables were reaction temperature 040-360 ℃.) and retention time (10-30 rmin) with methanol-to-oil molar ratio of 40 and reaction pressure of 35 MPa [1-3].The optimal process conditions were obtained using response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box Behnken design (BBD).Analysis of variance (ANOVA) demonstrated that the second order regression model equations of the overall FAMEs,palmitic,stearic,oleic and linoleic acid methyl ester were significant as evidenced from the pareto.Interaction (X1X2) of significant main effects,reaction temperature and retention time,was significant and had a negative influence on yield of the process due to thermal decomposition [4-6].The results showed that at the following optimum process conditions; reaction temperature of 353.1 ℃,retention time of 21.8 rain.The yield of overall FAMEs of 95.5% could be obtained at the optimum process conditions.
