Limulus amebocyte lysate(LAL)is the requested assay by regulatory authorities of United States of American and China for assessing endotoxin contamination in products for human use in vitro. However, its usability in nanomaterials still remains unclear.Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)are one of the most attractive nanomaterials due to it multiple potentials in biomedical and industrial fields. In this work, the LAL assay of both gel kit and end chromogenic kit were applied in the oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes(Os-MWCNT)for figuring out whether and how Os-MWCNT affected the performance of LAL.The Os-MWCNT was incubated with the LAL assays followed by mechanistic investigations by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE)and absorbance spectroscopy.
