With the features of micro-scale,quick mass transfer and accurate fluid control,microfluidics has become an important platform for generation of various functional particles with homogeneous morphology and variable structures.Optical encoding particles are very critical for multiple assays in molecular biology,genomics,drug discovery and diagnostics.1 In the high-throughput screening of numerous target molecules,spectrometric encoding particles are widely used in the spectra-based multiplex tracking of chemical and biological reactions.2 To further promote the encoding performances,fabrication of optical encoded particles needs improving.We presented a multiple-phase microfluidic method for preparing quantum dot-encoded microparticles.The water-in-oil-in-water double emulsions served as the templates to generate core-shell particles by UV polymerization.The core-shell microparticles contained orderly-arranged cores with different quantum dots,and the leakage and spectrum interference of quantum dots were effectively avoided.The maximum emission wavelength and fluorescence intensity of quantum dots,and the location of quantum dot cores served as the factors of optical codes.The encoding number was multiplied based on multiple factors.The encoded particles formed with this approach have a great potential in multiple assays,such as the multiplex detection of tumor makers and high-throughput drug screening.
