In the present age of social media technology, the way people interact with built environment in which they live has changed.Twitter, the most popular social network service, has become the new media in which to exhibit peoples urban lifestyle. When people tweet at a particular time in a specific place, the resulting data can be collected to link people within the built environment.Subsequently, recording the location and objective geographic information of these tweets can be used to create visual patterns of social space distribution.Case study research on the different locations of peoples Tweets in Denver,Colorado, within a twenty-day time period, provided objective distribution of peoples social activities to explore the use of social space in Denver.Within the 20km × 13km research area of Denvers city limits, this research analyzed a virtual dot social space pattern of Twitter users, based on the data from the social network platform.Spatial analysis was used to develop spatial pattern of social space distribution clusters.Denvers different intensities of social interaction clusters accumulated in different types of land uses can be analyzed. Then, converting social distribution clusters of Twitter users and urban centersdistribution map into a coordinate system, calculate different overlapping percentage between urban centers and social clusters to explore the social function of Denvers social centers. Also,it could suggest the research was relevant in regards to the use and design of the urban environment.
