Propidium iodide (PI), as a common fluorescent dye, is usually used for nucleic acids staining, which can react with both RNAs and DNAs.The PI positive signals in the nuclei are normally stronger than those in the cytoplasm in most of cells, such as the intestinal epithelial cells. In the present study, it was found that PI could clearly stain many large granules in the cytoplasm of large neurons in the rat trigeminal ganglia, dorsal root ganglia, and spinal cord.
