Traumatic brain injury has been consistently linked with increased risk of multiple neurodegenerative diseases including dementia.Recent work with surviving patients,post-mortem tissue samples, as well as multiple animal models have demonstrated that the TBI-initiated innate inflammatory response in the brain can persist for years following the initial trauma.
